Naos Pro GMT

Iteration Meets Innovation

The Naos Pro GMT Automatic represents a decisive step in the ongoing evolution of the Naos line – our bestselling Bauhaus-inspired timepiece. One year after launching the Naos Pro Automatic, I set out to expand the series with a complication that would push both the technical and functional boundaries of the collection: a genuine True GMT.

This project was conceived as an iterative product development exercise – retaining the refined proportions and minimalist design language of the Naos Pro, while integrating a new technical layer of complexity. The challenge was to implement a True GMT movement in a price segment below €1,000 – something that, until very recently, had been virtually impossible.

The introduction of the Miyota 9075 caliber in 2022 made this vision achievable. Unlike a standard “Caller GMT,” the 9075 allows the local hour hand to be adjusted independently of the GMT hand, in precise one-hour increments. This enables travelers to adapt to local time instantly while keeping their home time intact – a feature historically reserved for high-end luxury watches.

Key design and development aspects:

  • Iterative refinement: Built on the architecture of the Naos Pro, preserving its slim case profile (10 mm) while ensuring robustness and legibility.
  • Functional complication: First integration of a True GMT movement into our portfolio, aligning an advanced feature with the accessible philosophy of Sternglas.
  • Bauhaus reduction: Despite the technical complexity, the dial design remains clean, with a subtle 24-hour scale and color-contrasting GMT hand – an exercise in balancing clarity and complication.
  • Storytelling through design: Two distinct executions – midnight blue with orange accents (evoking distant skylines at dusk), and silver with a bold red GMT hand (precise and cosmopolitan).

For me, the Naos Pro GMT Automatic demonstrates how innovation and Bauhaus reduction can coexist: a high-value complication integrated into a timeless, minimalist design. It also reflects my approach to product design – working iteratively, listening to customer needs, and using technical breakthroughs to make sophisticated watchmaking accessible to a broader audience.
